A solo entrepreneur just scored a large distribution deal with Whole Foods, and scored some high-profile recognition for giving back to help the environment.

Patrick Schecht has gotten his plant-based dietary supplements onto the shelves of all the Whole Foods grocery stores in Texas.

His company, Fitppl, announced Aug. 28 the distribution agreement for all 34 Texas locations of Amazon.com Inc.-owned Whole Foods Market. It can now be found on the shelves of 47 stores in the Lone Star State, including locations of Central Market, an H-E-B LP subsidiary, and Austin’s Wheatsville Food Co-op.

Fitppl sells consumer products like vegetarian superfood made from vanilla and goji, cocoa and blueberry and other plants and herbs. The products can be mixed into other foods, like smoothies and deserts, for a nutritional boost.

“Our brand is all about crafting products that are better for people and better for the planet,” Schecht, who is the only full-time Fitppl employee, said in a statement. “We strip out the cheap fillers, ingredients and flavors you find in most [products]; this assures optimal purity and nutritional density for our customers.”

The company also strives to differentiate itself by pledging to use some of the money from every sale it makes to pay for environmental clean-ups. Fitppl said it has hosted 30 cleanups so far and removed 30,582 pounds of litter from the environment.

“Our industry is a top contributor to the plastic pollution issue,” Schecht said. “Our company and our customers will create the catalyst for the much needed change.”

Fitppl recently won a Best For The World award in the environmental category from B Lab, the nonprofit that certifies companies as B corporations — businesses that balance profit with their impact on the wider community. Schecht started Fitppl as a B corporation in 2015.
