Beckon Ice Cream
Beckon is the first premium lactose-free dairy ice cream on the market. One in four Americans suffer from lactose intolerance and the gums and additives used in dairy alternatives can often lead to similarly negative symptoms. Beckon maintains its creamy, indulgent taste and real, simple ingredients by keeping the dairy, then adds the natural lactase enzyme to make Beckon lactose-free. Unlike many ice creams on the market, Beckon does not use any gums, corn syrup, or artificial stabilizers. Beckon allows consumers to indulge and still feel good with a mission to make real, premium ice cream with a clean label available to the lactose intolerant and traditional ice cream lovers alike. Beckon is the story of Co-Founder Katy, a lactose intolerant nurse, and Co-Founder Gwen, a sympathetic sweet tooth who couldn’t stand the thought of people going through life without ice cream. The pair both grew up loving ice cream but, by the time they met at Villanova University, Katy had become lactose intolerant. She tried all the alternatives – soy, almond, coconut and more – but they just didn’t cut it. So she churned up something better – REAL ice cream, without the lactose. Finally, Gwen and Katy could share the same pint and no one had to compromise. They decided that no one should have to miss out on ice cream because of lactose intolerance, so they teamed up to bring the joy of real ice cream to all with Beckon.
Gwen Burlingame is Co-Founder of Beckon, the first and only premium, lactose-free dairy ice cream on the market. Originally from Springfield, VA, Gwen is a graduate of Villanova University, where she studied Marketing and International Business. Prior to co-founding Beckon, Gwen held roles at L’Oreal USA in e-commerce and digital strategy for Luxe Division, International Business development for Kiehl’s Since 1851 and Global Brand Marketing, also at Kiehl’s, managing the Lip and Sun product portfolios.
Katy Flannery is Co-Founder of Beckon, the first and only premium, lactose-free dairy ice cream on the market. Originally from North Attleboro, MA, Katy is a graduate of Villanova University, where she studied Nursing. Katy was previously an RN in the Pediatric ICU at Boston Children’s Hospital. It was her food journey and lactose intolerance that inspired Beckon and she is also a graduate of the famous Penn State Ice Cream Course.
