Launched in June 2017, Calyan Wax Co. is a give-back brand focused on crafting top-notch soy candles and giving you a simple way to become a social advocate against human trafficking in America. 5% of Calyan revenue is donated to Traffick911, Calyan's trusted nonprofit partner working to give hope, freedom, and empowerment back to survivors of trafficking.
Every candle features a modern, minimalist design and simple ingredients -- soy wax, essential oil infused fragrances, and cotton wicks. Currently, Calyan has 14 captivating, crowd-pleasing fragrances in 5 different product lines. Calyan products are sold online DTC, as well as in the Southwest region of Whole Foods, along with over 250 speciality gift and boutique locations across the U.S. Calyan continues to grow and invites more Americans to take a stand against human trafficking by simply enjoying a quality candle.
The first Calyan candle was crafted in Jacob’s mother’s house, in a back bedroom. Jacob, along with the help of his fiancé, Kameron (now wife) and friend, Stephen, began making the initial candle batches in preparation for the official launch of Calyan on June 1st, 2017.
Fun fact: Jacob proposed to his wife on May 18th, the same day Calyan launched preorders!
Calyan has been partnered with Traffick911, a nonprofit focused on combatting youth sex trafficking, since the beginning. Calyan made its first donation to Traffick911 on August 30th, 2017. A total of $1002.87! A small glimmer of what could be accomplished when people simply choose to enjoy a candle.
In November of 2017, Calyan had finally outgrown its bedroom headquarters and moved into the shed in the backyard of Jacob’s mother’s house. Calyan spent 2.5 years there steadily growing.
Tens of thousands of candles were made in this 300 sq ft shop. It was cramped, hot, and too small, but everyone made it work. It developed a team full of grit, creativity, and passion. During this time, the team began to grow. So many friends and family began to help make candles and run local farmer’s market booths. In the Spring of 2020, Calyan moved into its current location (6,400 sq ft) that has allowed them to finally stretch their limbs. While Calyan's production space may have grown, its mission and focus has remained the same: to craft incredible candles that are safe for your home and to help end human trafficking in America.
Calyan believes humans should not be treated as commodities, and every person should be treated with dignity. Calyan invites you to “kindle dignity” by simply enjoying a Calyan candle.
To date, Calyan has donated over $115,000 to its partner, Traffick911.
