Founding Story
Since 2015 I’ve been fully engaged in the non-alco scene. And when the first non-alcoholic spirit was launched we were quick to order. Went on to buy the me-too-brands that too were “distilled and replacing gin”; all botanical, soft on the palate and (of course) free from calories. All targeting the grown-ups who put health first.
All good. Except that we couldn’t ignore the feeling that the crowd who above all cares about the drinking experience was ignored. You know, people who love to celebrate and to hang out with friends over cocktails, and who like the challenging taste of fine spirits. But who more or less often prefer to opt out of alcohol. So many reasons these days… Health; Too little time to be hungover; Social media shaming; Or just a mindset that booziness really isn’t that cool anyway. And at the very center of this group – bartenders and mixologists. Challengers by nature, they love to elaborate and they keep the taste and look of the drink central.
Swedish Gnista was born out of the sense that these people deserve something better. Our take is dark, intense and complex – liquids that have the ability to replace alcohol when mixed in drinks*. Making it possible to shake non-alcoholic cocktails that taste and look just like alcoholic ones. For real. We like to call it the next generation non-alco spirit, at all means it’s no doubt different from the rest of the subtle products on the market. Gnista is hand-made only an hour’s drive from the HQ in Malmo, and has been made possible using a unique combination of gastronomy, state-of-the-art technology and classic spirit making techniques (where distillation, brewing and barrel ageing are central).
