Nimbus builds and operates premium and flexible commercial kitchens that are optimized for off-premise food prep and food delivery. The state-of-the-art facilities enable members to grow operations without the extensive regulatory hurdles or capital expenditure required in a new kitchen build-out and the flexible leasing model and opt-in value-added services allow members to pay only for the capacity and services that they need. The Nimbus production space includes pre-inspected kitchens with dedicated equipment; ample dry, cold, and freezer storage; and communal dish washing and specialty equipment areas. The Nimbus facility community area includes a dedicated delivery dispatch room; a studio kitchen for photo shoots and cooking classes; and a member’s co-working area.
In January 2019, Camilla Opperman was searching high and low for licensed kitchen space to launch a food business. She quickly became frustrated with her options: dedicated kitchens were expensive and required a long-term lease commitment; but the affordable and flexible shared kitchens were run-down and operated poorly. Camilla decided to take matters into her own hands, pivoted her business plans, and launched Nimbus in October 2019. Her mission was simple: provide an elevated, flexible, and affordable kitchen solution for food businesses looking to launch or expand their operations. In less than a year since launch, Camilla joined forces with Samantha Slager to close a pre-seed round of financing, conceptualize and kick off construction for the first Nimbus facility, and sign up numerous restaurants, catering companies, and food entrepreneurs as founding Nimbus members.
As an early employee at Away, Camilla sourced and opened fulfillment centers in nine new markets and built Away's corporate sales division. Now, Camilla is the Founder & CEO of Nimbus, the only premium and flexible shared kitchen in the market that is optimized for off-premise food prep, food innovation, and community enhancement via state-of-the-art facilities, operational support, and event programming. Camilla holds a BA in Political Science and History of Art from Yale University. She was the Captain of the Yale NCAA Division I Gymnastics team, two-time USA Gymnastics All-American, three-time USA Gymnastics Academic All-American, and the manager of the college's late-night kitchen.
Samantha Slager is a launch marketing pioneer and serial entrepreneur. Prior to her role as CMO at Nimbus, Samantha co-founded Poppy Talk Social, a Marketing firm specializing in launching start-ups and creating strategic brand partners. The company’s clients included Bumble, Dr. Barbara Sturm, Supergoop, and many others. Before launching her own firm, Samantha was a part of the Ralph Lauren Corporation, where she worked on the branding and marketing for stores and the entire Club Monaco business.
As Co-founder & CMO of Nimbus, the first premium and flexible commissary/ghost kitchen, Samantha was challenged with creating a brand in an industry unknown to most. In less than a year since starting the Nimbus, Samantha and her business partner Camilla Opperman have raised $1.4M in pre-seed capital, broke ground on construction for their first facility in the Lower East Side, and have aligned themselves with exciting strategic partners in the F&B industry.
