Among the first of its kind and founded in 2017, Plaine Products offers a line of toxin-free personal care products in containers that are sent back to the company once empty, to be cleaned, refilled, and returned to circulation. Based in Cincinnati, OH, the women-owned company offers a viable alternative to single-use products and continues its commitment to the environment with products that are vegan, non-GMO, cruelty-free, biodegradable, color-safe, and free of parabens and sulfates, and completely made in the USA. Plaine Products takes a collaborative approach to not just building a company, but also building a community of consumers who take a critical look at their own consumption in order to adopt more eco-friendly purchasing habits.
Proud to be reducing waste and helping to stop the spread of single-use plastics, Plaine Products is on track to divert 500,000 plastic bottles from landfills by the end of 2021, hence doubling its impact. Products are available for purchase on a per-item basis or via an eco-friendly subscription plan. A Certified B Corp and Women's Business Enterprise, Plaine Products is a member of 1% of the Planet, donating a percentage of profits to environmental causes meaningful to the brand and its employees. Known for their responsiveness to their customer base, Plaine Products most recently expanded with a full line of natural, facial care products, a hand sanitizer, and a line of unscented hair and body products, all to support regular consumer requests for additional opportunities to purchase plastic-free products that are good for both the body and the earth. The group was recently awarded a Real Leaders Impact Award. Plaine Products will continue to expand in 2021 with the addition of more natural, plastic-free products to the portfolio as they seek to further hone their internal fulfillment, packaging, and shipping procedures. The company plans growth with the goal of not only adopting but also establishing environmentally-friendly best practices, all with an eye to collaborate and share information with other like-minded companies and entrepreneurs with a similar mission to provide consumers more sustainable purchasing options.
CEO and co-founder, Lindsey McCoy, spent her early career working in The Bahamas, where her view of the beautiful beaches was often disrupted by the amount of garbage she saw washing ashore. She was particularly struck by the amount of plastic and began to think that someone needed to step up to solve the pollution problem. Eventually, she decided that someone could be her. Lindsey joined forces with her sister, Ali Webster, and the two founded Plaine Products as their way of making the planet a little better than they found it, for the sake of their children and future generations. Lindsey was among a select group selected to sail aboard eXXpedition, an all-woman sailing research vessel studying the impact of plastic pollution in the ocean. Her 10-day leg abord this journey again showed her first hand the impact of a disposable culture, reaffirming her commitment to continuing to build her company, but also to collaborate with other brands and business owners to further legitimize the need for waste-free packaging and products.
