NEW YORK, NY (September 30, 2020) – Get your burrito-eating pants on, because on Saturday, October 3rd, Chef Eric See is bringing a taste of New Mexico to Crown Heights with the opening of his new café, Ursula. The New Mexican-inspired takeaway café and bakery is a modern exploration of traditional New Mexican favorites served along See’s famed New Mexican-style breakfast burritos, and much more.
“Ursula has been a true labor of love for me. It’s been an exceptionally challenging time for the entire restaurant industry, but I am excited to be a part of the rebirth, especially with a concept that is so near and dear to my heart,” said See. “It means so much to me to be able to open a café that honors my heritage and introduces something new to the city that I love. New Mexican food is virtually non-existent in NYC, and my goal is to open up new worlds for our guests through our food.”
Originally from Albuquerque, New Mexico and now residing in Brooklyn, See has worked alongside some of the city’s most well-regarded chefs, caterers, and restaurateurs, and, once he even made breadsticks for Oprah. After having to close his short-lived, but well-received Brooklyn cafe, The Awkward Scone in June 2020, See sought to find a way to continue honoring his Hispanic-Southwestern heritage by filling a void in the NYC food scene where New Mexican cuisine is highly underrepresented. While sorting through the thoughts and emotions of closing a business during a pandemic and reaching for the strength and motivation to rebuild, See thought of the stories of hardship, countered by resilience and persistence that prevail throughout the life of his New Mexico-born grandmother. It was immediately clear that the parallels were indicative of what was taking place in See's own life, thus it made perfect sense to name his new cafe, Ursula, after her.
At Ursula, expect to see a menu inspired by See’s heritage and his love for Southwestern cuisine, including scones studded with fire-roasted chunks of New Mexican green chiles, tea lattes made with high desert herbs and breakfast burritos stuffed with hashbrowns, chorizo and Hatch chiles.

Stuffed Sopapillas with carne adovada, red chile, refried pintos and cheddar cheese
Apple-Cheddar Green Chile Pastelitos featuring a housemade rye-crusted apple pie with New Mexican green chiles, cheddar cheese and rosemary
Breakfast Burritos with choice of bacon, chorizo, or vegan pinto beans, scrambled eggs, hashbrowns, cheddar cheese and New Mexican red and green chiles
Brioche Egg Sandwich made with house-baked brioche, scrambled eggs, New Mexican green chiles and cheddar cheese
Poblano Relleno stuffed with quinoa, cauliflower rice, roasted corn, tomato-ancho puree, brined blue corn and vegan crema
A selection of house-baked pastries and herbal tea lattes will also be available all day and include:
Brioche Donuts available in vanilla glazed or Black Currant Juniper glazed
Gluten-Free Biscochitos featuring anise-cinnamon shortbread
Vegan Lemon Turmeric & Poppyseed Loaf finished with a passionfruit saffron glaze
Covenant Latte with rose petal, palo santo, cinnamon and hibiscus
Horchata Latte with rooibos, toasted rice, cinnamon and vanilla bean
Sakura Latte with matcha, cherry blossom and vanilla bean
As an advocate for food justice, immigration equality and the LGBTQ+ community, See uses his expertise in pastry as a channel to give back. At Ursula, he will continue on the tradition of his charitable rainbow pastries, cookies and cakes that raised over $15k to various LGBTQ+ charities at The Awkward Scone.
Ursula is located in the heart of Crown Heights at 724 Sterling PL. Brooklyn, New York, and is available for takeout, delivery and limited outdoor seating Wednesday through Thursday from 8:00am to 4:00pm, and Friday through Sunday from 9:00am to 7:00pm.
